Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 19, 2026 · Hangout Labs LLC

Hangout is a mobile application operated by Hangout Labs LLC ("Hangout," "we," "us"). It shows what is happening near you in real life and lets you join. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we will never do with it.

Mobile numbers are never shared

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, excluding the SMS delivery provider acting solely to transmit verification messages on our behalf. We do not share, sell, rent, or otherwise disclose mobile phone numbers or messaging consent to any third party or affiliate for marketing or promotional purposes. Your phone number is used to verify that you are a real person and to secure your account. The only third party that ever handles it is our SMS delivery provider, acting solely to transmit your verification message on our behalf.

What we collect

We do not store your coordinates

When you check in at a hangout, your location is compared against the venue's area and then discarded. We record that you checked in — never where you were. Hangout does not build a location history, and does not track you in the background.

SMS and text messaging

We send text messages for one purpose: account verification. When you create an account or sign in, you enter your own phone number and request a code. We send a one-time passcode that expires in ten minutes.

Message frequency

Messages are sent only in direct response to your request. You will typically receive one message per sign-in or account-creation attempt. This is not a recurring or subscription program, and we do not send marketing, promotional, or informational text messages to this number.

Message and data rates

Message and data rates may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Opting out

Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts. Reply HELP for assistance, or email brock@usehangout.com. Because verification codes are how you access your account, opting out may prevent you from signing in.

How we use your information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not run ads.

Who else touches your data

We use a small number of service providers, each limited to the task we hire them for:

We may also disclose information if required by law, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to prevent serious harm.

What other people can see

Your first name, last initial, age, photo, and reliability record are visible to people who share a hangout with you. Your email address and phone number are never shown to other users. Private messages are available only between people who have met at a hangout and have both agreed to connect.

How long we keep things

We keep your account information while your account exists. Attendance records are kept as a permanent, append-only history, because other people's reliability records depend on them. Backups are encrypted and rotated.

Deleting your account

You may request deletion of your account at any time by emailing brock@usehangout.com from the address on your account. We will remove your profile, photo, and contact information. Attendance rows that other people's records depend on are anonymized rather than deleted, so that no one else's history silently changes. We may retain limited information where required to resolve an open report or a legal obligation.

Security

Access to production data is limited and logged. Backups are encrypted. No system is perfect, and we will tell you promptly if something happens that affects you.

Children

Hangout is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete it.

Your choices

You can update your profile in the app, request a copy of your data, or ask us to delete it. Email brock@usehangout.com and we will respond, usually within a day.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect.
